Hans
Co-owner & Chief Engineer

Hans, founder of Altadena Energy & Solar, combines deep technical expertise with a passion for sustainable design. A former NASA Jet Propulsion Lab engineer, he holds degrees in Physics (Goshen College), Electrical Engineering (Penn State), and an MBA from USC. Hans entered the solar industry in 2008, working in both solar-thermal and photovoltaic systems, and founded AES in 2012 to offer high-quality, in-house engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services. A member of the Pasadena Rotary Club and board member of Throop Unitarian Universalist Church, Hans is a community development and clean-energy policy advocate. Guided by his Mennonite roots, he’s committed to advancing resilient, locally powered energy solutions that strengthen both people and place.

Joy
Co-owner & Business Manager

Joy oversees business development and utility relations at Altadena Energy & Solar, while managing day-to-day operations as a NABCEP PV Associate. She also provides energy consultations and project estimates, helping clients design systems that balance performance, aesthetics, and long-term value. Before joining AES full-time in 2014, she managed the Arroyo Food Co-op in Pasadena and was a doctoral candidate at USC studying the sociology of religion and culture. A Buddhist practitioner and member of the Order of Interbeing in the Thích Nhất Hạnh Plum Village tradition, Joy brings mindfulness and community values to her leadership. As a board member of the San Gabriel Valley Green Circle and mother of two, she’s driven by a deep commitment to building a sustainable, compassionate future for her children and the wider community.

Anita
Project Manager

Anita is the Project Manager at Altadena Energy & Solar, where she serves as the central link between customers, engineers, and installation teams. She oversees project coordination from start to finish—managing schedules, permits, materials, and communications to keep every detail on track. Anita ensures that clients stay informed and supported throughout each stage of their solar and energy-storage project, helping turn complex plans into smooth, successful installations.

Administrator

Amir

Amir supports both office and field operations. He assists with project documentation, scheduling, and customer communications, helping ensure that each project runs smoothly from contract to completion. Amir keeps the team organized and connected, playing a key role in maintaining AES's commitment to clear communication and excellent service.

Assistant Administrator

Jessica

Jessica supports both office operations and customer communications. She assists new customers with onboarding questions, utility interconnection paperwork, and rebate applications, helping make the solar process clear and stress-free. Jessica's attention to detail and friendly professionalism keep projects organized and clients well-informed form start to finish.

Assistant System Designer

Danny

Danny supports the design and engineering of residential and commercial projects. He helps translate site data, customer goals, and utility requirement into accurate system layouts and specifications. Danny also assists with plan sets and interconnection documentation, coordinating closely with project managers and installers, to ensure designs are efficient, code-compliant, and ready for construction.
